About this event
OncoEng is pleased to announce a series of 6 on-line training sessions, on cancer, for engineers & physical scientists . Each session will be delivered by relevant experts and comprise 3 or 4 x 50 mins lectures plus Q&A.
This is a new Course for Engineers and Physical Scientists involved in Cancer Research. Engineering and Physical sciences underpin many of the advances made in oncology over the last few decades including those that have had a key impact in imaging and radiotherapy and more indirectly in advanced manufacturing for modern pharmaceutical drugs and a systems engineering approach to complex management systems. However, the entry into this research domain by an engineer can be fraught with challenges due to the need to understand the biological and clinical landscape.
To help overcome these issues, OncoEng together with collaborators has designed a course for engineers and physical scientists needing an introduction to cancer. The course offers an insight into the necessary cancer biology as well as diagnostic and clinical interventions. The course comprises 6 half day, weekly sessions from mid-January, delivered on-line in the form of 50 minute lecture slots by experts in their fields. Topics range from cancer biology to the epidemiology of cancer to specific treatments for breast cancer, say. The latter part of the course focuses more on metastatic disease which is becoming a more focused research topics.
