New funding confirmed for Research and Innovation in the UK

OncoEng welcomes the funding to be provided to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the body that administers research funding to public bodies in the United Kingdom. UKRI’s overall budget, for the next three years, was set as part of the UK Government’s 2021 Spending Review and rises from £7.9 billion in 2022 to 2023, to £8.9 billion in 2024 to 2025.  Further details of how the funding will be distributed can be found here.

A welcome addition is the funding for strategic cross-council research and innovation, one of the drivers for the creation of UKRI, was to improve multi- and interdisciplinary research in the face of Global and UK challenges. The UKRI has a wide remit over the next three years improving the research and innovation landscape, enhancing the levelling-up agenda and providing high-end skills for the UK workforce, which are all set out in the UKRI Strategy 2022 to 2027.
